Hi, I'm Kevin Yates, fitness expert and personal trainer for Tracy, San Joaquin Valley and the East Bay, California and founder of Yates Performance Training.

This is after I lost 36 pounds.
I have to be honest with you. I was once overweight and terribly unhealthy with a list of nagging injuries. I had been a talented baseball player throughout my youth and was involved in athletics my entire life until I graduated high school and went to college.
I was trying out for the college baseball team as an outfielder. But, before long I started to experience shoulder and elbow pain in my right arm. I tried to work through it but it just kept getting worse until I was forced to quit and end my dream of becoming a professional baseball player.
Within a few years my list of injuries grew. I began having episodes of lower back pain and knee pain that made me avoid certain activities and movements. Then, I heard that lifting weights could help me strengthen my body and reduce pain so I began working out at a local gym. Then one day while warming up doing shoulder presses I sustained a serious shoulder injury.
I even went to 2 physical therapists to see what was wrong and neither of them could find the answer. I had to avoid certain movements and activities which led to me slowly gaining weight. And, before I knew it, I gained 36 pounds and I felt awful and hopeless.
Believe me, I know the devastating effects being overweight and out of shape and a bunch of nagging injuries can have on your self-confidence, your outlook on life and your energy levels, not to mention your health. And, because of my injuries, I thought I would never be able to throw a baseball, go running or enjoy working out again.
But, something inside of me was determined to find a solution.
Over the next couple of years I realized that it wasn't the actual movements or activities I was doing that were causing me pain but how I was doing them. Like most people living with pain and injuries, I had muscle imbalances that were causing my body to overuse certain muscles while other ones were getting progressively weaker.
Finally, after many years, I discovered the most effective method for eliminating muscle imbalances and injuries and being able to enjoy an active lifestyle which worked so successfully for me and so many others I wanted to help everyone that I could with my method. So, I ultimately built my own personal training business in Tracy, California called Yates Performance Training.
